Lucre Store Changes

August 12th, 2010

You may have noticed that we changed the lucre amounts in our Figment Lucre Store.  Why you ask?  Well, because we have more players on the site and as a result our lucre economy is more robust than ever.  So we’ve raised the lucre totals needed to buy each level of prize by 5,000 pieces of lucre.  We have more changes in store for the Lucre Store, so be on the lookout.

Forgive me, but I’m a little irritated. I mean, it makes sense. I don’t disagree, but I was so close to getting an iTunes card.

  2. TMTYTF Says:

I feel the same way. It basically seems like the value of lucre is diminishing a little bit

One thing about economies. The more money that exists “out there”, the less inherent value said money has. That is exactly why our government can’t just go print as much currency as it wants…if it did that we would just have more dollars but with the overall same value. It seems to be the same in the Figment universe. As the community grows, more lucre flows into the economy…the more lucre that exists, the less each individual piece of lucre is worth.

It may seem unfortunate to some, but it is the nature of economics.

I understand it’s a bit of a drag for those users out there who had their hearts set on certain things, such as Childofalma and his iTunes gift card. But, personally, there’s never been anything in the Lucre Store that’s particularly caught my eye. The iTunes gift card would be cool, or even the ipod shuffle, but it’s nothing I absolutely have to have. I wish there was more to the Lucre Store, or that you had more options on what you could spend your Lucre on. An interesting idea would be to maybe create some sort of virtual merch booth (similar to the way the t-shirt feature is set up on the main page) where users could create and add artwork that could be printed on things like shirts and posters, and be able to use your Lucre on band merch. While it’s a novel idea, I doubt it would ever be something that would see the light of day, otherwise you would be able to do the same thing with the t-shirts now instead of paying for them.

First of all, thanks for all your comments. It’s good to hear what some of our more established players think of our recent change to the Lucre Store. We’re committed to creating a community here and a big part of that is having an open dialogue with our players.

I have to admit I’ve started and stopped about 5 different responses to these comments, because while the issue of the Lucre Store may seem quite simple to discuss it’s actually far more complex. So I won’t waste space in the comments trying to address all of the complexities of the issue, but will instead try to write up a blog post in the next day or so that addresses them in detail.

Thanks again for voicing your opinions.

I REALLY, REALLY like Frizbee’s idea. Perhaps new prizes or different ideas on customizing a Stonekrank poster, for instance, would be totally rad! I’ll be honest in that I like the idea of being compensated for our hard work on the albums and bands we create, but the lucre store has always been one of my least favorite things about Figment. The prizes ARE a little shabby and although nice once in awhile, I think it would be cool to choose something only Figment could offer us.

Frizbee might just be on to something there, I mean, it’d be so freaking inside walking down the street with a t-shirt advertising an imaginary band.

People’d be all like “hey man, awesome shirt, are they a band or something?”
& you’d be all like “yeah dude, they freaking rock, you should check ’em out!”

& then you could laugh yourself to sleep every night. Jokes on them =D

  8. eric Says:

Well Inflatable Twerp we already have a section of the site that will help you do just that. Just click on the Merch section of the site and you can design your own tour shirt for your imaginary band. You can either work with the designs we already have loaded, the ones provided by our partner Spreadshirt or create your own and upload it. It’s pretty easy and the cost is reasonable.

I think what frizbee is suggesting is more of a virtual tour shirt that could be displayed on your band or tour page and could possibly be “gifted” to another user who might be a fan of the band.

  9. Childofalma Says:

Yes, I like that idea. Just a virtual shirt that didn’t cost any real money. I would like the idea of wearing a Forgotten Falling shirt, but I’m on a tight budget. I imagine I’m not the only one.

  10. frizbee Says:

You’re not the only one, Childofalma. I’ve been wanting to buy my own Xenophilia Tour shirt for a long time now, but I’ve just never had the spare cash. I’m not entirely hard up, but it’s money that needs to be used for other things. Stupid bills. I’ve also got another Eccentric Arcade design that I would love to have printed up, but, again, it all comes down to the spare cash.

I don’t see the logic in the argument that any of us should be compensated for what we do on Figment.
And (assuming we’re all music lovers…right?) I’d say iTunes cards are most assuredly not shabby. Who would turn down free music?

I’m with you guys on the T-shirts. I would dig printing one (or 10) but I got those same things…Stupid bills and extraneous crap that keeps eating away at my spending money.

  12. TMTYTF Says:

Don’t get me wrong Hoseman, I do like the iTunes gift cards an all, but it’s just that I’ve already won like 4 of them from Figment and we could buy them at any store. We already get compensated with our lucre and the prizes we can win, but I think it’d be cool if they added stuff that only Figment could offer us
