Band Bio
In 2001, Ragsdale High School marching band members Evan Quinn and Natalie McGovern decided to start a group that would combine mainstream rock with heartfelt lyrics and just enough edge to keep them from being thought of as emo... because, frankly, they weren't into makeup, new wave hairstyles or cutting themselves. After recruiting classmates Paul Anderson and Tyler Gross from the just-then-dissolved band Restricted Mode, and longtime friend Jackie Sheen, they began practicing in Quinn's Jamestown, North Carolina garage. <3 was born.
After performing many shows in the Greensboro area throughout their high school career and recording one independent studio album (the very rare "Use Me Or Lose Me"), the band broke up in 2003, each member going their own way as Quinn and Gross went on to college. <3 was dead.
2008, however, saw something very rare in the realm of high school garage bands: upon graduating from college, all four of the five departed original members had returned to live in their hometown. Once they all learned of this coincidence, they decided to get together for a one-night-only reunion show. But after friends and fans gave them a massive turnout and rabid support, what was intended to be a special, final performance for the group turned out to be the inspiration for bringing the band back to life. <3 was reborn.
The band continued performing and eventually began to gain fans throughout the Mid-Atlantic as they performed for college events at Appalachian State University, UNC-Greensboro, Wake Forest University and other area schools. Students began requesting that <3 come to their hometowns to play, opening doors in Raleigh, Charlotte, Roanoke, Charleston, Johnson City, Virginia Beach and many smaller towns. By early 2009, they were offered a contract with the Profound Nothingness label and began production on their first wide-release studio album, "Bad Ventriloquism."
