Band Bio
Have you Heard?...
New Orleans own Massey Ferguson cranks out some of the funkiest, rockingest Brass Band sizzle on this humble little rock we call home.
Growing up in the lap of affluence out on the west end of St Charles, Massey spent his early years in forced intensive training as a classical trumpet player. His genius was diagnosed early on and the title of child prodigy only added to the pressure on his young shoulders.
When his teen age rebellious streak hit, he would hop the street car into the Vieux Carre and hang around out back of some of the hipper jazz clubs listening through the load in door. He completely flipped out over the crazy sounds he was hearing. Once back home he secretly got to work trying to emulate the style.
Accepted to the Kirkwood School of Music with an Orchestral Composition major, Massey learned the rules of music theory inside and out. Armed with this knowledge he set out to bend (and almost break) every musical rule he had learned.
The old jazz gurus from the Quarter were intrigued by this new face on the scene. But Massey soon laid to rest any reservations they may have had about his ability (or his seemingly impossible authenticity). Over the next several years Massey collaborated with most every body who was any body in town and soon built a small herd of the best of the up and comers which became known as the "Stampeding Heard".
They became the Thursday night house band at the Maple Leaf and regularly filled Tipatina's. One fateful night in early November while Zandergriff Miggs was sticking around New Orleans following the MOM festival he happened by an unnamed bar on the edge of the Quarter, out by Armstrong Park and the music he heard coming out of the club blew his mind. It took many conversations and much prodding, but eventually Zander convinced the Heard to come up and play some shows at his new venue the Jundland Club in Minneapolis. After the first night word got around and they held court for capacity crowds the rest of the week.
And now UncleDuffRecords is proud to present...

Tracks: 13 July 2010-With horns blowin' their creole spice across the Alps, the Stampeding Heard wowed the Teutonic crowd at the storied Montreux Jazz Fest. In their first appearance outside the U.S., they quickly became the festival darlings. Opening with a gumbo-funk version of Aaron Coplands classic composition and blowing bayou brass thru their set till the encore where they were joined by Zandergriff on squeezebox for a raucous cover of his "Oberg Mt. Loop". Grab your go cup & march with the Heard! |
